Overview:
The GLOBIS Cup World Go U-20 is an international tournament for young players newly introduced in 2014. It is organised by the Nihon Kiin. GLOBIS is the name of a Japanese university (and the corporation behind it) sponsoring the tournament.
Tournament Format:
The tournament is open to 16 players, all 20-year-old or younger. The seats are allocated as follows: Japan (6), Korea (3), China (3), Chinese Taipei (1), Europe(1), North America(1), and Oceania(1). In first stage, players are divided into 4 groups to play three double-elimination rounds. The top two group fininshers enter the second stage, compete the title in a single-elimination format.
Prize Money:
Winner: 3 million JPY; runner-up: 0.5 million JPY; 3rd place: 0.2 million JPY.
Time System:
Fast games with 30 seconds per move and 10 extended thinking periods of one minutes (so-called NHK format).
Ruleset and Komi:
Japanese rule with 6.5 points komi.
